2. Buy a flat indoor antenna if the towers sit under 25 miles away, an outdoor model if they are farther.
3. Plug it into the antenna input on the back of the TV.
4. Run “Channel Scan” or “Auto Program” in the TV settings menu.
5. Write down which channel numbers map to CBS, FOX and NBC before Sunday arrives.

Reception changes with distance, terrain and building materials. Apartments with metal framing or no window-facing wall often get weak results, so run the scan on a quiet weekday instead of 20 minutes before kickoff.

The NFL app and the NFL Channel

The NFL app carries the NFL Channel free on any device, with no account required. It runs live game-day coverage, replays, highlights, Next Gen Stats and original programming through the whole season.

3. Select NFL Channel.

The league says it plainly: there are no live NFL games on the NFL Channel. “Live game-day coverage” means scores, stats and highlights, never the broadcast feed.

Tubi

Tubi is free, ad-supported and owned by FOX. It carries the NFL Channel, a set of sports channels, the NFL Films archive and classic games. FOX streamed Super Bowl LIX through Tubi at no charge in February 2025, which is why it pays to look there whenever a marquee FOX game comes around.

How to use it

1. Install Tubi on your TV, phone or browser.
2. Open the Live TV tab.
3. Search the guide for NFL Channel.
4. Create a free account only if you want a watchlist that follows you across devices.
5. Check the Sports row on any weekend with a big FOX broadcast.

Tubi's sports lineup shifts as licensing changes. A channel labelled FOX Sports does not mean every FOX game sits inside it.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV works the same way: free, no account, no credit card, with the NFL Channel and a sports section inside the guide. The ad load is heavier than Tubi's.

How to use it

1. Install Pluto TV or open it in a browser.
2. Scroll the channel guide down to the Sports category.
3. Select NFL Channel.
4. Add it to Favorites so it loads first next time.
5. Use it for pregame and postgame rather than for kickoff windows.

Same limit as above: coverage and replays, not live games.

Prime Video

Amazon holds most Thursday Night Football games. New Prime members get a 30-day free trial, which covers four to five Thursday nights if you start it in Week 1.

Peacock, through Walmart+

Peacock has Sunday Night Football and the September 9 opener, and it no longer runs a direct free trial. The workaround is Walmart+, which includes Peacock Premium at no extra cost and opens with a 30-day membership trial.

How to use it

1. Start the Walmart+ 30-day trial.
2. Open the membership benefits page and pick Peacock as your streaming choice.
3. Activate the Peacock account through the link Walmart gives you.
4. Watch Sunday Night Football in the Peacock Sports tab.
5. Cancel Walmart+ before day 30 if the football was all you wanted.

FOX One

FOX ran an annual promo at $8.25 a month billed yearly through September 7. A deal like that beats a three-day trial if you intend to watch all season.

What a free app to watch NFL live really gets you

Broadcast rights decide all of this, and most free-NFL roundups walk straight past them.

The league sells its schedule in slices. Sunday afternoons belong to CBS and FOX. Sunday night is NBC. Monday night is ESPN, with part of the slate simulcast on ABC. Thursday night is Amazon. Netflix holds the Melbourne opener and the Christmas Day games. Out-of-market Sunday games live inside NFL Sunday Ticket. No free app has permission to carry all of that, and none will while the rights stay split this way.

That leaves three honest categories:

• Free and live — your local broadcast stations, over an antenna.

Two traps deserve a warning. DAZN streams NFL games free in some countries and US readers land on those articles constantly, but the league points US users to NFL+ and sends everyone outside the US to DAZN, so it is not a US option.
